Tourn-o-meet-ing-a-ment Time, Sunday 10/26

winna of da scrilla

You deeply want to be like this kid.

8 PM the Alleyway Bartopia 2415 NE Alberta.

I propose we meet here, but let the discussion begin. If that’s not happening, I’m still planning to rock tournament land and win my dues for the evening.

In other news:

Green Dragon now has 4 machines and will be getting a 5th ASAP. MB, Batman, Star Wars, and Arabian Nights. We have GC on 2 of the 4 machines but there are some familiar competitors poking their noses where they don’t belong (the backglass…)– VAN, OOO, POO to name a few. Let’s take back the night and support both these places being active and getting more pins!

I know this schedule could interfere with the usual 10-2 meeting schedule, so please comment either in the comments section of this post, or the events section of the message board. thanks!

Spin the Fucking Lamp! I love the Arabian Nights.

for anyone who’s not reading the message board relijilously, in the events section there i suggested we have 2-stage meetings if we meet at any place that closes early, such as the alley or the dragon. since both those examples are close to other good bars, and we seem to have an early and a late crew most meetings, i say we meet at one early, then roll to the next closest thing.

for example, we could meet at alleyway for the tourney (starting at 8, probably finishing at 10-11,) then roll over to billy ray’s until close. supposedly the know is getting rid of their pool table to get more pins, which would make it another good meeting spot.

when we meet at the dragon we could set a time (12 or so?) and caravan over to plan B or up to vern, or to a further location if we want. it would be fun to march from place to place as a group.

i know there are lots of other considerations– we don’t want people to lose interest or get lost or confused about where we’re meeting, and some places that would otherwise be good to meet at have annoying music on sundays (sometimes plan B and sometimes ground kontrol come to mind.)

it seems to me from recent meetings like these things are factors, but you’re never going to make everyone happy, and you can’t plan for certain problems, like when we’ve met at vern, goodfoot, or clinton and machines have had problems. some people don’t like smoky places, some people want somewhere that serves liquor and not just beer, some people have to get up early so a 10 pm start time doesn’t work for them; they show up early and leave by around 11.

i figure between all these things and the nearly 30 members we have, some variety could outweigh the problem of places closing early, and might actually increase turnout. we’ve moved in the middle of meetings many times in the past and still had a lot of fun. we could also have an impromptu early shift, like a pre-meeting at these places at 8:30 or so until 10, and then have the official meeting location.

    what do other people think?

I tucker early, maybe we could set up something with a little more notice involved. I personally will show wherever whenever. Maybe a schedule could be ciphered? J-wray help us.

Wed. meetings. Meetings 3 times a week.

btw. how the fuk do u get big points on Party Monsters?

    must GC.

    must.

  5. BounceBack   23 Oct 08 at 10:58 pm

danny B you should post that question on the skills & tactics section of the message board! but WOF told me the whole key to the game is completing the spider wheel up top. he doesn’t really go for the multiballs or try to get scared stiff. all he does is try to shoot the right ramp to re-light “spin the spider” then he goes for that until he completes the wheel. if you finish the wheel you get everything– EB, double scoring, bonus multipliers, etc., awarded to you AGAIN (after getting them the first time) and huge points and a multiball. he completes the spider 3 times or more in a decent game (over 100 mil.) i’ve seen him put up over 400 and say that wasn’t that great.

i’m down for mid-week meetings, multiple meetings. i’ve been thinking it would be cool to get a steady CFF contingent at the pinball league– i always get too busy to go, but i’d like to start trying to make it.

Bounceback, he said Party Monsters, not Scared Stiff! You’re going to get us all murdered with your foul reading skillz. Unless you are reading backglass’s mind, and he really meant Scared Stiff…

Yeah, I’m the only cff that goes to the ppl meetings. and I only make 1 or 2 a month. More peops should show, because it’s fun to compete. And it only takes like 1.5 hours of your time.

  7. Kickback   25 Oct 08 at 5:45 pm

4 years of making meetings religiously, now work gets in the way. We used to Alternate Tuesdays and Sundays years ago. I only get Saturday and Tuesday off now. It’s more fun to compete!

  8. danny backglass   25 Oct 08 at 6:51 pm

Shit. That is what I meant.

    Scared Stiff.

Fuck that wheel is hard to complete.

  9. BounceBack   26 Oct 08 at 12:24 pm

see, ROM? see? i WAS reading danny’s mind. god, get off my back already. i’m going to get us all murdered with my fucking telepathy, more like it.

party monsters is all about lighting the left ramp and then collecting the million shot on the left orbit. just loop that ramp until you light the millions.

  10. Aaron   26 Oct 08 at 1:29 pm

Yeah but it is more work depending on how far along Elvira is, you are better off locking all three balls and then hitting both ramps for the Jackpot. On scared stiff you really just have to get scared stiff each ball and complete scared stiff. The wheel helps but it takes a long time to build it up and is a risky shot. I does pay off though, and i’ve got a pretty good system for getting it. I’ll try to explain it tonight at Billy Rays

  11. ROM   27 Oct 08 at 3:28 pm

I’m kind of getting sick of constantly being wrong about so many things. It’s like I have zero instinct, take everything super literally, but also perceive things in some backward wrong way. Help me!

Also, what was up with that calendar meeting today? I couldn’t make it because of work.

  12. danny backglass   28 Oct 08 at 4:49 pm

Fuck the spider wheel. That thing took me forever for a measly multi-ball. Fuck that thing. Scared Stiff is way better points.

  13. BounceBack   29 Oct 08 at 12:11 am

hey i suck at that game completely. all i’m saying is the wolfman has that shot dialed, in his sleep, and i’ve never seen scores like his on that game. i mean 400+ mil? that’s his strategy. he just keeps getting those EBs.

aaron, what’s your method for completing the spider wheel? also congrats on the tournament win, you fucking cold blooded killer. you have some kind of disorder that makes you good at pinball. maybe it’s called practice? desire? what’s the secret max? you seem to have it pretty figured out.

  14. Aaron   29 Oct 08 at 9:56 am

first off, every time you plunge the ball the wheel needs to be lit, so i try to make the eyes of the bony beast shot, comes back to the right flipper, pass it over just by holding up the flipper and then nail the right ramp, on the one at ship it was all fluid with no trapping, then it comes to the left flipper and i nail the spider hole. if i miss i just hit the left orbital to lock my ball and plunge it in. If i made the spider shot with my shot i would keep doing it while it was dialed in until i missed and then moved on to get scared stiff. I’ve only tried this method once and got 124 mil. WOF scores are tainted, i’ve heard no tilt, and that spider hole is a black hole that things sucks every shot down! Good Luck

  15. danny backglass   29 Oct 08 at 11:45 am

Yeah. I’m down. But if you work your ass for the spider hole, complete it, and than fuk the multi-ball, as I did yesterday, the pay off aint shit. Plus, it doesnt make for a fun game. I think multiple scared stiffs is the way to go. Super fun, and, its sweet scaring the game Stiff. It’s hilarious. I mean. Thats fukin pinball comedy. Im still laughing right now. HA HA HA. HA HA HA HA HA. Shit. I forgot to get my lithium script filled. brb.

  16. deathsave   30 Oct 08 at 4:07 pm

i go for both on SS…monster multiball for points (trap one on the left flipper and rape the bony beast) and spider just to keep resetting those extra balls. it’s such a fuckin grind getting to WOF-type scores though…somewhere between 200m and 250m i lose interest and want to go play something with a deeper ruleset.

  17. danny backglass   2 Nov 08 at 11:47 am

    deathsave. im hip mang.

  18. BounceBack   3 Nov 08 at 10:47 am

that’s the complaint i hear from everybody, and why they don’t use the game in tournaments. i guess everyone decent just kills the thing. i’ve never gotten a score like that, but i’ll start trying again.

the problem with shallow rules is the exact issue with IJ4 and batman DK though. DK is a long-ass game even if you don’t do well, and it breaks in crucial spots even though there’s hardly anything to break. i’m surprised, but the crane doesn’t have so many problems– joker breaks all over the place. IJ4 is so simple in its layout that i just purely don’t care about it. brandon just slayed one yesterday at rialto, long game, and i’ve just never been able to put it together like that.

how do you guys get focused enough to kill games consistently? sometimes i do bad because my mind wanders, and on IJ4 i’m *always* thinking about something else, so i suck.
