A couple rollergames issues

My upper playfield flipper is a bit sticky and one of my pop bumpers isn't working and I'm gonna pull them apart today. Just wanted to see if any of you guys had any advice as to what to look for that might make my day a little easier. Thanks. Chris.

Go ahead and pull the upper flipper apart - clean the plunger link and coil stop with rubbing alcohol. Is the coil sleeve (tan colored plastic thing that fits in the coil) all gunked up? It should be replaced - they cost .20 each.

I'd still recommend springing for the rebuild kits for both lower flippers and the upper. It's $40 well spent

Get 1 full kit, and one "right side only" for the upper right flipper.

It'll change your life man . . . swear to god.

Before you rip the pop bumper apart, make sure the switches make contact when you push the plastic skirt down (do this with the PF up). You might put some rubbing alcohol on a business card and rub it between the contacts of that switch.

If it's not that, you may have a transistor that needs replacing - check that other crap first though.

Before going crazy on the pop bumper make sure a wire hasn't fallen off one of the coil lugs and check the resistance of the coil (power off!).

I second Noah's advice on the flippers. Also check to make sure the return spring is working correctly and that the plunger isn't mushroomed.

Thanks guys. I'll give those things a try. Gonna drop in a flipper rebuild kit soon.

One more thing on the upper flipper - make sure the bat isn't binding against the plastic bushing. You should be able to wiggle it up and down (that is up away from the playfield, and down towards the playfield). 1/8 to 1/4" of play is about right.

I think that the binding was the issue. Got it up and working now. Reallllllly need to rebuild that flipper. Going to buy a rebuild with the next pay check.
