A few problems with a Flash machine

Your machine is ugly because you took bad care of it. Now what?

A few problems with a Flash machine

Postby CAP on Sun Mar 28, 2010 3:50 pm

Just got a Flash machine a few weeks ago and began going through it to fix some problems in the score displays. What started out as a missing 100,000 digit on the player 2 and 4 displays has turned into a complete shutdown of all score and credit displays.

The game powers up and all the lights on the board and backglass work. All wires look securely connected to boards.

Any advice on getting this working again.

Is fuse F1 blown? +100V/-100V present on the display board?

I'm pretty sure it is the fuse since I pulled it out and ended up with the same result of lights on and nobody home. I also checked all the connections for loose wiring and found nothing out of place.

However, fuse looks intact. One of the pins (upper bracket) holding the fuse in place came off the board and may have to be soldered in or something.

Are those fuses something special or can they be picked up at radio shack?

Hey Cap,

Great game - nice score! If the thing holding the fuse to the board came off, you should replace it - not resolder the old one. Also - those fuses can usually be found at Radio Shack. You might be able to buy a new fuse holder as well. Check the manual (or ask Eric) for the fuse value - you might as well check the other fuses for the correct values as well - many time operators will overfuse to "solve" a problem. This is bad.

It's a .25A 250V slow-blow fuse. Radioshack usually has them:

No question, definitely replace the fuse clip. Don't try to fix it. Fry's stocks them:

EDIT: the RS link above is for a fast-blow fuse. Couldn't find a .25A 250V slow-blow on their website.
